Yakuza 0 (Prologue) In 1985, Goro Majima is an up and coming favorite in the Shimano yakuza family. When he and his best friend, Taiga Saejima, become embroiled in an assassination plot, Majima ends up defying his boss's orders. The seriousness of his insubordination leads to the loss of his left eye. He's tortured for a year in the hole. When this doesn't kill him, Shimano lets him out in order to use Majima's continued dedication to Saejima to his own advantage. Majima spends two very depressed years as a civilian 'pet' in Sotenbori where he has been tasked with running a cabaret club. The money he makes from this profitable endeavor is tribute towards rejoining the family. In an attempt to get back in the family faster, Majima becomes embroiled in another assassination plot. He isn't able to murder his target but, through pursuing the truth of why the yakuza want her dead, he is eventually provided the opportunity to impress Shimano and return to the yakuza life. It's hard fought. His psychological and emotional damages are only amplified. When it's all over, he purposefully makes changes to his personality. He decides he's going to live his miserable life with unbridled enthusiasm. He's tired of being kept down. Now discussed as 'the Mad Dog of Shimano', Majima is the unhinged patriarch of the Majima Family. He's known for his unpredictability, his viciousness, and his loyalty. While difficult to control, he is a high ranking Tojo Clan officer. He and his men are valuable assets. Majima possesses the largest family within the second largest yakuza clan in the region. Majima's primary obsession is strength, and he judges all other yakuza by whether or not they can defeat him in combat. His favorite enemy is Kazuma Kiryu, whom he seeks out and challenges regularly. It is at his request that Majima throws the support of his large and well-organized family behind Kiryu's choice for the Tojo Clan chairmanship. Serving as advisor to Daigo Dojima raises Majima's profile further and his family only grows larger. With his other business ventures included, Majima has many responsibilities and many enemies. He is the most difficult obstacle to be cleared in every plot to kill or overthrow Daigo. Saejima is eventually released from prison, and he and Majima are reunited. With his own family behind him, Saejima joins Majima and Daigo in steering the fortunes of the Tojo Clan. Under them, the Tojo Clan only continues to gain members but its ranks are always growing ever more unruly...
